Setting Up Your Firm

After your first login, configure your firm so Barristr works the way you need.

Firm details

Go to Settings > General. Enter your firm name, default currency (USD, CAD, or EUR), and preferred language. The firm name appears on all generated invoices and PDFs.

Offices

Navigate to Settings > Offices. Add each office location with its name and optional invoice prefix (e.g., KIN, LUB). The prefix is used in invoice numbering — for example, KIN-FAC-2026-001.

Departments

Go to Settings > Departments. Create departments like Litigation, Advisory, Mining, Tax. Departments help organize matters and filter reports.

Document categories

In Settings > Document Categories, manage how documents are classified. Add categories like Contracts, Pleadings, Correspondence, or Evidence.

Billing defaults

Configure default tax rate, email sender address, email templates (with variables like {invoice_number}, {client_name}, {amount}, {due_date}), and payment terms text that appears on PDF invoices.
